in literature. The greatest Brazilian writer was a black man. The problem? Almost nobody in the country knew that. We have reshaped the author's image, revealing
the true color of his skin, and for the first time, we have introduced the world to
the real Machado de Assis.
The first book featuring the true photograph of Machado was published months after the campaign's launch.
We also updated his image at the Brazilian Academy of Letters, an institution founded precisely by Machado de Assis.
The country's leading intellectual and cultural figures embraced the cause, turning it into a true movement. The news spread through Brazil's and the world's major media outlets.
